General
Lycos no longer maintains their own search engine database. Searching from their main page (or selecting Lycos on this page) returns results mainly from AllTheWeb
but also several paid results from Overture at the top, any appropriate listings from within the Lycos portal, and Open Directory categories at the bottom.
The adult content filter is only available for the Lycos option.
Lycos, which is part of the Terra Lycos company, also owns the HotBot search engine, however HotBot uses the Inktomi database.
Search Help & Advanced Searching
Lycos's advanced search includes only AllTheWeb, and all of the options are exactly the same as AllTheWeb's. So for search help and more options,
use the AllTheWeb page.
Fast Forward
Each search result has a "fast forward" link. Clicking on this link will open the search results in condensed format in a search pane at the left hand side of the window. Each result will show up in the main window.
Many people will find this to be a faster way of browsing through the results. Lycos has even enabled this for Netscape, by using frames at Netscape does not have a search pane.
