While Vivisímo is a meta-search engine, the point of Vivisímo is its clustering.
Clustering
Vivisímo organizes search results in a folder tree (also know as Windows Explorer style) of topics. This is a difficult task, but Vivisímo uses great technology. While the clustering is done when you search, the topics and subtopics look like they were human-edited. Clustering can greatly improve your search experience, especially by narrowing down large topics. This makes Vivisímo one of the best search tools on the internet. See Topic Clustering.
Meta-Search
Seen as a meta-search engine, Vivisímo is very good. A large selection of sources are available, not just search engines and news. Vivisímo accepts a wide variety of syntax, making it easy to use no matter what your usual search tool uses. It supports full boolean searching with parentheses ( ) and several field operators (host: link: title: etc).
