AltaVista's news search uses data from Moreover. However, while Moreover's search uses Inktomi, AltaVista's version works differently. You can use + -, and " " operators, and sometime during the summer, more powerful boolean searching will be available (see their web search page). Using AltaVista to search Moreover's data has several other advantages: you can select which category to search in, and results show the beginning of the article, not just the title. Some results are even accompanied by a small photograph. Searching with the same query on AltaVista and on Moreover will not produce the same results. While AltaVista's web search may not always be up-to-date, their news search is.
