General
Daypop is one of the best tools for searching current news and weblogs (blogs). It includes thousands of sources (which it indexes very frequently), and it caches them all.
It also offers the ability to search RSS headlines, provided by NewsIsFree.
One nice feature is that the search results' link to the cached page includes the date it was cashed, unlike Google. The ability to search
within very specific times makes Daypop indispensable. Another great feature, Daypop maintains a list of the current most popular sites
(based on number of recent links). This is similar to Blogdex, but two lists are better than one. As seen here, Daypop has excellent advanced searching.
Queries
Daypop defaults to an AND operator. It is not case sensitive, and includes stopwords (prevent with +).
It supports phrases " ", + and -. You can also search for pages which link to a page with link:www.somedomain.com.
About
Daypop is exclusively the work of Dan Chan, also creator of the we::blog weblogging system. It is currently being supported by short text advertisements
on the search result pages and the Top 40 page.
