General
Google's news search is currently in Beta, and contains news from only about 100 sources. Still, it is a good news search with some unique features. Each search result is accompanies with up to four related articles from
other sources. Each article is noted with the source it came from, and the main article of each result says the time that it was found by Google. Unlike most news search tools, Google's enables you to sort results by date.
Crawling
Google crawls its news sources every hour, and keeps articles in its database for one week. There is no 'cache' link; probably because Google assumes that if a page existed sometime this week then it is likely still around.
Headlines
Google's news page (news.google.com) has a list of news headlines. These headlines became popular before Google's news search opened, because they give you a good overview of the day's news.
They are organized into general stories, World, US, Business, Entertainment, Technology, and Sports. There are eight stories under the general section, and five under the rest. Just like the search results, each headline is accompanied
with a source, time, and up to four related articles.
Search Help
Currently Google does not have an advanced news search, however we have been able to provide several options on this page. Most of Google's search syntax should
work for the news search, see the Google Web Search page for more information.
