General:
Scirus is a quality search tool by Elsevier Science. The search is powered by Fast.
PDF, postcript, and other invisible web file types are included in the index, which is important because many science papers are in PDF.
According to Elsevier, their database contains over 85 million pages. While web results are free, journal results cost are not, although they will
still appear in the search results unless you deselect it. Each search result has a checkbox beside it which can be used to save or e-mail the selected results.
Search Help:
You can use search syntax and boolean operators such as " ", + or AND, - or ANDNOT, and OR.
One useful feature is "refine your search" on the side; click on any of the suggested terms and they will be added to your query, or you can search within your results.
Each result has a link to "similar results." If there are under 10,000 results then you can sort them by date with a link on the results page.
