Basics of Fagan Finder
To use Fagan Finder's search tools, type text into the textbox at the top of any of the search pages (includes the home page). Then select which option you want to use, and click on the 'go' button located beside the textbox. To use more specific options, click on one of the links. When you go to a different page on Fagan Finder, your search text will still be there.

More than Basics
Fagan Finder is made of of three sections. The largest section is the search tools section (see below). This includes pages for searching images, news, science, and others. The second section, is information about searching. This section is located here. The third and smallest section, is the "site" section (located here), which includes this page, and other pages relating to Fagan Finder.

The Parts of Every Page
Every page in the search tools section of Fagan Finder has a textbox, a 'go' button, and a 'clear' button at the top. Below this are the options, if there are any. Below this is information if ther is any, and below that are links. All of these are separated by a blue bar. The top of every page tells you the location of the page, for example Fagan Finder > Web Search Engines > Google. The pages that are above the current one in the hierarchy (Fagan Finder and Web Search Engines) are links to those pages. At the bottom of every page are links to Fagan Finders' home page, help page, contact page, and a few others. Most pages list the last date of the last time that the page was changed, at the bottom of the information section or the options section. On the bottom bar of the page, there is an option to change the target. See details below.

Target
At the bottom of almost every page, for Internet Explorer users, there is a selection box for changing the target. Netscape users will see a link to a page where the target can be changed. The 'target' is where search results appear. Unless you change it, the target is set to 'this window' (the default). This means that when you perform a search using Fagan Finder, you will be taken to that search page in the same window. To get back to Fagan Finder, you click on your browser's 'back' button. If you set the target to 'new window' and then perform a search, the results will open up in a separate browser window. To get back to Fagan Finder you can exit this window or click on Fagan Finder in the taskbar. 'Other window' is similar to 'new window,' however the results will always open in the second window, instead of there being as many windows as searches you have perfored. Personally, I use 'new window'. Netscape users can go here to change their target. Note that the target is stored in a cookie, so if you turn your computer off and on and go back to Fagan Finder, your settings are still there.

Search Tools Section
The search tools section is all the pages which have a search box at the top of the page. They are divided into a number of sections, such as reference and web directories. Each page contains search tools which we have chosen because they are of high quality. Below this are links to quality websites which either do not have a search engine, or are not the type of website which is searched. Some of the search options are also links. These links go to pages on Fagan Finder for that specific search tool. They contain more options, information, and search help. Beside every search tool is a little ^ link. This link will take you directly to the website (not on Fagan Finder) where this search tool is located. You can recommend search tools or links to add here.

Updates
On the front page of Fagan Finder is a section labelled 'updates,' formerly 'news & updates.' Updates tell you what is happening at Fagan Finder: changes, additions, etc. News about search engines was once included here, now you can find that on Fagan Finder's Blog. Old updates ar archived, see a list of archives here. Every update is dated, and the top line gives a few keywords about what the news and/or update is about.
