Make search results/external links open in...
This enables you to control where search results and external links (links to pages not on Fagan Finder) open.
If you don’t quite understand, then change your preferences and observe the results by using Fagan Finder to search or by clicking on links to external web pages.
You can always change it back.
Page Info Viewer links
If you select this option, every external link on Fagan Finder will be followed by a superscript “i,” like this: i.
The “i” will be a link to Fagan Finder’s Page Info Viewer tool, for the link it follows.
This tool allows you to find information about any web page, translate it, track it, find similar pages, etc. Note: that this feature is only available for modern browsers, so Netscape 4.x, among others, is excluded.
Spell Check and International Keyboard
Most pages on Fagan Finder are “search pages,” in that they have a search box at the top, and options below.
If you choose the “spell check” option, a link to check the spelling of your query will appear just below the search box on every search page.
If you choose the “international keyboard” option, then, on every search page, you will see a row of characters used in English and foreign languages, many with diactrics (accents).
Clicking on any of these characters will add them to your query in the search box, which is useful for people who’s keyboards do not include these characters.
Autosearch
Autosearch is a beta feature. This means that it may not work for everyone, and I may remove it at any time.
Autosearch enables you to quickly search through the tools available on Fagan Finder without having to select them one at a time.
After using this page to enable Autosearch, you will see an Autosearch button on search tool pages. Type your keywords and select an option as usual. Then, instead of the search button, press the autosearch button.
It will open the search results in a window in front of the current one, but you should still be able to see the very top of the Fagan Finder page. After browsing through the results from the tool you’ve selected, press the autosearch button again.
It will take you to the results of the next tool. At any time you can close the second window, or select a different option on Fagan Finder.
Please send me feedback on this feature.
Your options are saved using a cookie. A cookie is a small file which websites can place on your computer. So, when you choose options here, they get stored on a file on your own computer. Fagan Finder itself does not record the information. These preferences will not work if you have turned cookies off, or if you are using a browser that does not support cookies (most do). If you save your preferences today, and come back next week, you will find that your preferences are still there. Only one set of preferences can be chosen per computer, and anyone using the computer will be able to see (and change) your preferences.
This is new, and not fully complete. Fagan Finder is in the (slow) process of being upgraded. The preferences that you choose here will only affect pages that have already been upgraded.
