About Language Identification

About this Page

Like the Translation Wizard, this page does not process your request. Instead it sends your request to the language identifier that you have selected. Language identification is a complex process, and not always correct. You can use this page to compare the identification of different language identifiers. Each one works in a somewhat different manner, and each one has a different listing of languages that it is able to identify.

Entering Text or a URL

Language identifiers work best with lots of text. If you enter in just a single sentence, the accuracy will not be as high as with a paragraph. This page is one of few online tools that can identify the language of a web page; here only ¿Qué? can do this. For all other tools, the web page is first downloaded. The text is then extracted from it, and only then is the request sent to the language identifier. Note that this process is not perfect. Currently framed pages are not supported. Just like the Translation Wizard, PDF and SWF files can be used. See information about using these file formats.
