About the ‘General’ Section
These are tools which provide basic information about a webpage (or website), such as WHOIS (ownership) information and other people’s comments and reviews. DNS Stuff includes a number of tools that are not included in URLinfo, and SEO Toolbox is another aggregate tool similar to URLinfo.
Below is a listing of the tools in this section, along with their descriptions.
General
- Alexa
- Alexa will show the title, description, and related websites for the webpage. Other information applies to the entire website, and includes a thumbnail of the homepage, traffic information, speed, backlinks, pop-ups, contact information, reviews, and related Open Directory categories.
- Whois Source
- Whois Source provides basic WHOIS information, metadata from the web page, a thumbnail of the page, the page’s favicon, Yahoo! and DMOZ listings, and web server information.
- Global Whois
- Global Whois provides WHOIS information for a large number of TLDs (top-level domains) including many ccTLDs (country-codes). It also supports wildcards and looking up names on multiple TLDs at once.
- SurfWax
- SurfWax SiteSnaps™ count the number of links, images, words, and forms on a page, shows the meta description tag, and extracts “key points” and “FocusWords.”
- Stumble Upon
- Stumble Upon is a collaborative bookmarking service. For a given URL, it lists the people who recommended it (and their comments if available), the category it is in, and the page size.
- 7Search
- 7Search shows a website’s traffic tranking, number of backlinks, link popularity, “TrustGauge,” language, area of service, contact information, Open Directory category, and a link to the Wayback Machine.
- metaEUREKA
- metaEUREKA shows information about the page (last modified date, page size), meta information (description, keywords, author), web server information, and the number of backlinks
- Furl
- Furl is a collaborative bookmarking system. This tool allows you to see the comments others have written about the given page.
- Del.icio.us
- Del.icio.us is a collaborative bookmarking system. This tool allows you to see the comments others have written about a webpage.
- Gibeo
- Gibeo allows anyone to annotate any part of a web page, and others can comment on the annotation. You must be logged in to Gibeo to use it.
- Semantic data extractor
- The Semantic data extractor finds information about a page (metadata, page outline) by looking at its HTML code.
- FyberSearch
- This allows you to view a web page as the FyberSearch search engine sees it. Includes various metadata, topic words, bolded words, lists, outbound links, and other information.
